A rich and smooth red pizza sauce is critical to any good homemade pizza. This sauce has so much flavour that you could easily just use it for dipping in crusty bread. For my pizzas, I love using this sauce as I satisfy the pizza craving without sacrificing any of the flavour.

Ingredients
-
8 Red Veg Blocks
-
1 400g can of Italian diced tomatoes
-
3 cloves of garlic, crushed
-
2 tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
-
1 teaspoon of dried oregano
-
Cracked pepper to your taste
-
OPTIONAL: ½ cup of red cooking wine
Directions
Detailed Instructions
Add the olive oil to a small saucepan, on a medium heat.
Crush the garlic cloves and add to the saucepan once it's hot (but not smoking, otherwise the garlic will burn). Occasionally stir the garlic so it doesn't burn. Cook until the garlic is a light brown colour (should only take 2-4 minutes).
When the garlic is light brown, add the red wine. Turn the heat to high, and reduce the liquid down to approx. ⅓ of what you started with (it doesn't matter if you cook it off further) - this will ensure there is no alcohol left in the sauce.
Add the can of diced tomatoes, the 8 Veg Blocks (from frozen or defrosted), oregano and pepper.
Put the lid on the saucepan to reduce the splattering mess!
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low. Keep the sauce simmering for at least 5 mins (simmer for 20-30 mins if you have the time).
Put the sauce in the fridge to cool down before spreading on the pizza dough (ideally down to fridge temp, but if short of time, just make sure the sauce isn't bubbling when you put it on the dough).
Use a large spoon to spread over your pizza dough. Add more toppings, or enjoy as a simple plain pizza (with the secret added veg that no one will know is there!).
Simple Instructions
Sauté the garlic in a small saucepan.
Add the red wine and reduce to ⅓ of the liquid.
Add the tomatoes, the 8 Veg Blocks (from frozen or defrosted), oregano and pepper.
Simmer for 5-30 mins (depending how much time you have).
Cool in fridge before use and then enjoy!
Recipe Note
* Red Blocks are the ideal option so that the sauce stays a vibrant red, but any will work. As a first alternative, use Orange or Rainbow. And as always, there is no harm is using a mix of different Veg Blocks!
